Unit: The Five Senses

Suggested Time Frame: 5 weeks


Christian Integration:

(Hearing) Young Samuel Listens to God’s Voice (I Samuel 3)

(Taste) Jesus feeds the Crowd (Matt. 14:14-21)

(See) Saul and the Bright Light (Acts 9:1-9)

(Smell) Perfume on Jesus’ feet (Mark 14:3-9)

(Touch) The Woman Touches Jesus (Matt 9:20-22)


Suggested Songs and Finger Plays:

“My Senses” a clapping rhyme (Thematic Bible Unit-pg7)

“Thank-You, God, a song to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle”

“I will listen” a song to the tune of “London Bridge”

“Oh, Be Careful Little Eyes” (substitute: ears, mouth, hands)

“This Little Light Of Mine”

Science Center- (Containers containing different smells on cotton balls: cinnamon, perfume, apple juice, chocolate) Guided Play: (Simon Says game); Show and Share Day-ask questions which focus on the 5 senses.

Student Objectives:

1. The student will show an appreciation for their senses in learning about the four seasons.

2. The student will recognize the importance of obedience to God’s call.

3. The student will discover how different foods taste, and their preferences.

4. The student will learn how God can use their senses to share the Gospel.

5. The student will be given basic knowledge of miracles to build upon
