Champion Christian Middle School Speech Meet

Champion Christian Middle School requires all students to participate in Speak Week each year. Every day of that week several students will present their selections during activity period. Students will know ahead of time which day that they will perform and they should be ready to present that day.  Please select things that you really want the audience to be moved by, to be encouraged by, or to be inspired by. Begin early memorizing your material so that you can present it to the audience in a memorable and enthusiastic way!  

Please follow these guidelines to select your piece:

1. All selections must be approved by a high school faculty member.

2. All selections must come from a published work. This means no internet published

    material.

    Examples of published works include: poems, plays, speeches, the Bible.

3. Selections should NOT come from a repetitive children’s book such as Dr. Seuss

4. Time requirements: 5th & 6th grades -- 1-2 minutes 7th & 8th grades -- 2-3 minutes

5. Any students working together must present a piece that meets the time   

    requirements for all of them.

Speak Week Scoring:

1. Memorization and time requirement _______________ /35 points

2. Clarity, volume, rate of speaking _______________ /20 points

3. Posture, eye contact, poise (no fidgeting, gum, laughing, etc.) _______________/20 points

4. Expression of appropriate emotions, enthusiasm & meaning _______________/25 points

Selections should be approved by your homeroom teacher by December 15.

If a student has not chosen a selection by Christmas Break, one will be chosen for them.

SPEAK WEEK is held in February of each year.
